Update: Microsoft and NHS Enterprise-wide Agreement (EwA)

After a lengthy decision-making process, NHS Connecting for Health have decided not to renew the NHS Enterprise-wide Agreement with Microsoft.

This change has an important impact on how Microsoft products are licenced in your organisation. To ensure compliance and to assess the impact this has on your organisation, please review what products and solutions you have access to.

Please refer to the PSA09 Factfinder for comprehensive information about buying licences under the Public Sector Agreement (PSA09) – the software purchasing model for the UK public sector. You can also contact your Large Account Reseller (LAR) or Microsoft if you require further assistance in determining your licensing requirements.

As a result of this change, please note that the Home User Programme and the Employee Purchase Programme will no longer be available.

Microsoft understands the concerns of NHS employees regarding the sudden requirement to uninstall any copies of Microsoft Office licensed via the Home User Programme (HUP).

The NHS decision not to renew the Enterprise-wide Agreement (EwA) that enabled NHS employees to benefit from the HUP was unexpected for us too and did not allow us any time to pursue other ways in which NHS employees could continue to benefit from the HUP. However, we are now working with a number of NHS organisations to try to find local solutions to enable continued home use of copies of Microsoft Office licenced via the HUP.
We therefore recommend that all NHS employees who have purchased a licence for Microsoft Office via the Home User Programme refer to the IT department within their organisation for further information before uninstalling the product.

However, NHS employees whose organisation are not covered are required to uninstall their HUP version of Microsoft Office from their home PCs. More details and uninstall instructions can be found here.
