The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) is pleased to announce that Typecon2009 will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, July 14-19, 2009.
Type Camp
Galiano Island, BC
At Type Camp Galiano, 9-14 August 2009, differing and convergent approaches to typography will be presented in a relaxed but structured program over five days. The instructors this year are: Dr Shelley Gruendler, international typography instructor and founder of Type Camp; Stephen Coles, Type Director at FontShop; the well-known typographic expert aka “TypeGirl”, Tiffany Wardle; and a visit from international type superstar, Marian Bantjes. All four will share their professional processes and typographic knowledge to help you become a better typographer and designer.
ATypI 2009
Mexico City, Mexico
2009's ATypI conference will be held October 26-30th in Mexico City. The conference theme is "The Heart of the Letter". This week-long event will consist of three days of workshops and small events held at Anáhuac University’s hilltop campus, and two days of main programming held in the Centro Histórico, the historic center of the city. All venues in the Centro, including the main conference hotel, are within easy walking distance.
Type Camp India
Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Combine your type education with your travels! Type Camp India, 10-20 December 2009, will provide you with an opportunity to investigate and create while experiencing one of the most visually rich cultures in the world. Every morning is a studio and every afternoon is a workshop. You’ll visit local publishing houses, meet and work with street typographers, hold type walks in local markets, learn Tamil Calligraphy, and experiment with silkscreening, bookbinding, and printing. This is a camp that cares about exploration and context within typography. With typographic experts Dr Shelley Gruendler and Dr Rathna Ramanathan, you’ll expand your typographic abilities to create projects that will make your work stand out from your peers
